Drive Like Jehu

from Wikipedia:
Brendan Reid of Pitchfork Media also notes that "It's often easy to forget that DLJ were considered emo in their day; Froberg's howls of 'Ready, ready to let you in!' on 'Super Unison' seem like a sick parody of stylish vulnerability. Then the song mutates into a gorgeous, snare-drum rolling open sea, and everything you've ever liked (and still like) about this genre in its purest form comes flooding back.

the highlight

kick the door down and start smooth and straight, as fast as possible until you get high. then settle in and feel it. have the music on loud. everything is vibrant. the pace, the sights, the lights, the feeling, the heartbeat. it will clear your mind and wake you up and it lasts long after.

Chinese Food Delivery guys

The year is 2013, and NYC Chinese food delivery bicycles have fully evolved from taped up mountain bikes to fully-functional motorcycles with non-moving bicycle pedals. These delivery guys are now realizing that they can no longer get away with pretending they're too foreign to understand the traffic laws. Riding in the wrong direction is finally out of the question.

Optimum Online

From Fuzzy Brain
I gave Optimum Online a talking to. They were a pain from the beginning; they'd call and send mail advertising for their "triple-play" for $99, and couldn't understand why or how I could only want internet. I had to call and wait on hold and stuff for a good half hour just to cancel the mail they kept sending. It had come to the point where they would send the same shitty ad in a priority mail envelop. They were probably thinking, "Maybe he just never received our informative pamphlet advertising the 'triple play.' Because why else would someone not get the 'triple play?' How can someone not watch TV or have a landline??"

I called them up to cancel and waited on hold for 25 minutes. When I finally got through, the guy was the worst. He was slow as molasses and awkwardly just keep the phone to his ear when he was "looking something up." Even though it wasn't the guy's fault, I told him Optimum Online (in the Bushwick area at least) is an embarrassment and they should be paying me to use it. $50 for that shit is ludicrous. He offered to have someone come over and check out our modem and stuff and to give 15% off our next two months, but I just said to cancel it. I just got a bill for $70 and I'm waiting until I have the time and patients to either call and argue about it, or go over there and yell.

Long Run

Today I ran with Andrew and James from Andrew's apt in Jersey City, up and over the GW, and down to Columbia University. They continued on all the way back to school, making their run twenty-something miles. My legs wouldn't let me go any further. That was the longest run I've done in years. I feel like an old man right now.

Here are the stats from the run: 18 Miles

Recently

The two German girls Panda met in Germany two summers ago who we had staying at our place for 10 days left on Thursday, and our apartment is back to being drab and crappy. The highlight of those 10 days was watching Planet Earth with Claudi and hearing her reactions.

Johnny Got His Gun

I read this book Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo this past summer, and I always recall this paragraph about the main character's memory of home in Shale City, IL with his friends.
In the summer they went out to the big ditch north of town and stripped off their clothes and lay around on its banks and talked. The water would be warm from the summer air and heat would be rising off the brown-gray land like steam. They would swim for a little while then they would go back on the bank and sit around all naked and tan and talk. They would talk about bicycles and girls and dogs and guns. They would talk about camping trips and rabbit hunting and girls and fishing. They would talk about the hunting knives they all wanted but only Glen Hogan had. They would talk about girls.

Monkey

This is for my roommate Panda and my brother Mike who like this song a lot.

Regrets

Things I regret:

Not:
- getting an internship so I could have the experience necessary to get a chemical engineering job once I graduate
- taking a picture with High Five Flower Dress girl (Freyja) outside the bar in Reykjavik, hours before leaving Iceland
- going to professors for help. I use to feel like I was too dumb to even know what questions to ask.
- not starting a band in Cooper
- living in the dorm
- learning how to shred
- saying hello to all those gorgeous, cool lookin girls I see all over the place
- playing varsity soccer
- starting to sing at an earlier age
- having more sex in high school
- not screwing up a friendship because of a girl (that one's a double-negative)
- thinking of something really witty to say all those times when it would have helped me make a point or help my situation in some way
- taking the mini SD card out of my phone before I gave it to the mugger
- putting the birthday money from my grandma in that little pocket in my jeans, before getting off the J train late at night
- running from the mugger, or stopping when he first tried talking to us
- getting nervous and remembering all the words when I was on stage, especially during the Rock Lobster performance when I forgot part of the first verse

Things I don't regret:

- not growing up sheltered
- not going to a technical high school and not being bred into a technical whiz before college
- applying to Cooper Union
- not being obsessed with Pokemon
- not being a fan of the band Tool
- learning that there was more than radio music, and delving into it in middle school
- having a girlfriend for three years in high school
- cliff jumping in the quarry and getting an ear infection and going to the demolition derby at the Orange County Fair on the same day, then rupturing the ear's eardrum while on one of the unsafe rides at the fair
- starting running when I did, junior year of high school
- walking or riding to school every day in high school
- not getting my license or a cell phone until I was a senior in high school
- my first car being stick
- Being raised in Goshen, NY
- Not drinking until college
- working at the pizza place all through high school

Dedication to Back to the Future

Last year I was George McFly for Halloween because he's an awesome character and because my friend Heitz said I should be him. I took the time to make this clip from my perfectly legal digital copy of the movie. Youtube let me put it up, but it can't be shown in some countries, and I'm not allowed to embed it or link it, so here's the "link": www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=xUXjfYFwgZo. The stuff's gold. "Density has pot me to you."
"Whaaat?"
"Oh.. what I meant to say was, destiny has brought me to you."
